A Schitt-y Halloween

11.01.19

Is it just me or has the past few years of Halloween weather been terrible? In Michigan, it’s always a toss up what you’re going to get but I feel like the past few years have been especially gross conditions for trick or treating.

All of the non-stop rain put a damper on getting photos of my costume this year, but we still had a surprising amount of trick or treaters! I was happy to see the parents toughing it out for their kids and making the most of an otherwise miserable situation.

Finally! The clouds parted today and I was able to get my costume officially documented. I had so much fun putting this look together and even more fun being blonde for the day!

One of my favorite shows, of all time, is Schitt’s Creek! If you haven’t watched it yet, where have you been? I reccomend you log in to Netflix immediately to begin your binge. My sister and I recreated the iconic looks from one of our favorite episodes “Finding David” aka the one where David runs away.

For my Alexis costume, almost everything is from Amazon, thankfully, because per usual it was a last minute decision to dress up as something other than my usual alter ego of a cat. The faux fur white jacket is thrifted from years ago and I’ve had those shoes forever. The hardest part was recreating her hat with the feathers. If you look for faux beige turkey feathers, that’s the closest I could find to something similar.

For my sisters David Rose look, she owned everything already aside from the black sweatshirt that we sewed some faux black fur to the hood. Black jeans, long black shirt and black sweatshirt. Done.

I think I enjoy Halloween just for the dressing up part, I love a theme and it’s fun to see how creative people get! I already have my ideas brewing for next year…

What was your costume this year? Bonus points for photos!

Collectively,

Karmen

A cozy little book reel in honor of World Book Day A cozy little book reel in honor of World Book Day 📚

My local Barnes and Noble closed a few weeks ago and the last visit was so sad. There’s a part of me that always thought I would see a book I wrote on one of these shelves.

I’ve spent hours browsing in this store, bought every required school reading book here, with the coordinating spark notes, of course.

It’s where I would find the books that filled my beach bag every summer and shopped for gifts every Christmas.

I found my first vegan cookbook here when I was desperately looking for recipes that had ingredients I was familiar with and it was one of the first places I went when I moved back from the west coast.

There’s just nothing like your hometown Barnes and Noble 🤍

Officially the worlds longest caption about a bookstore? Leave a favorite B&N memory if you made it this far ;)
