I am not a coffee drinker, I know, it’s blasphemy but I never got into it. For me, my cup of comfort is a matcha latte. However, I am not one to go to a coffee shop every day for a latte so I needed a way to make my own.
Making a matcha latte at home always sounded so intimidating until I looked up a couple of recipes and realized it’s solely up to the maker how complicated or simple it is. So I began whisking around with different proportions and came up with my favorite matcha latte recipe. It requires no special tools and is only three ingredients.
This makes enough for one latte:
1/4 tsp matcha powder
1 c rice milk
1 tsp agave nectar
Over low-medium heat on the stove, add milk, matcha powder, and agave to a small saucepan. Whisk all ingredients together while bringing milk to the desired temperature, mine is just before boiling. That’s it! Easy right? Not intimidating at all!
If you want a stronger latte, use less milk. If you prefer it sweeter, add more agave. You can adjust for your preferences or what you have available.
Now, what kind of matcha? I started out using Trader Joe’s single-serving matcha packets and now am experimenting with a few matcha brands, but none that I love yet. I think the Trader Joe’s option is great, especially starting out because it’s affordable, easy to access, and pre-measured.
