How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

03.27.20

While I previously washed my brushes with baby shampoo in the palm of my hand. I notice much better results since I’ve amped up my brush cleaning arsenal. The best part, it’s just two inexpensive items and my brushes have never been cleaner!

Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap- I am finally on the Dr. Bronner’s bandwagon. For years I heard people singing the praises of Dr. Bronner’s and now that I’ve tried it for myself, I am too! It is plant-based, biodegradable, fair-trade, organic, not genetically modified, and a certified B Corp… need I say more? I love a multi-purpose product that is good for us and good for the planet. It can be bought almost much anywhere.

Brush Mat- The one I use is from Amazon but any brush cleansing mat works about the same. The little nubs and grooves help work out the build up makeup and oils. Truly a game changer.

I first wet my brush, squeeze use a little dab of the soap on the mat and swirl around until the water runs clear when I rinse the brush. I repeat for each brush. Once rinsed, I place brushes flat on a towel and allow to dry for 24 hours.

That’s it! So simple but so important to ensure your face stays free from bacteria and old makeup. I usually use my brushes for 3-5 days and then clean with this method. I rotate between two brush sets so I have no excuse to procrastinate washing and always have clean brushes available.

Collectively,
Karmen

A cozy little book reel in honor of World Book Day A cozy little book reel in honor of World Book Day 📚

My local Barnes and Noble closed a few weeks ago and the last visit was so sad. There’s a part of me that always thought I would see a book I wrote on one of these shelves.

I’ve spent hours browsing in this store, bought every required school reading book here, with the coordinating spark notes, of course.

It’s where I would find the books that filled my beach bag every summer and shopped for gifts every Christmas.

I found my first vegan cookbook here when I was desperately looking for recipes that had ingredients I was familiar with and it was one of the first places I went when I moved back from the west coast.

There’s just nothing like your hometown Barnes and Noble 🤍

Officially the worlds longest caption about a bookstore? Leave a favorite B&N memory if you made it this far ;)
