Girlfriend Collective makes comfortable, yet cute sustainable activewear. There is nothing I enjoy more than when form meets function and Girlfriend Collective is the best of both. I don’t think enough people talk about them, so I will happily oblige. Here is why I love Girlfriend Collective and my thoughts on my recent order!
Labor Transparency
Girlfriend Collective is fully transparent about manufacturing and labor policies. Workers receive fair compensation and workplace conditions are monitored to remain safe with there is no child or forced labor. Their warehouse is certified SA8000, which means they meet social accountability standards set by Social Accountability International (SAI).
Sustainable Materials
All items use recycled materials, including plastic water bottles. Each item page has a sustainability report outlining how much water, landfill waste, and CO2 saved. It is shocking when you add up what a typical outfit costs the planet.
Commitment to the Environment
I love their commitment to making as little impact on the planet as possible. Meanwhile, not only are their materials and operating process as sustainable as possible, they offer microfiber filters for your washing machine and package everything with recycled and recyclable materials. The microfiber filters are able to prevent additional water pollution from microfibers. I have not tried it myself yet but I appreciate they recognize the global impact of fashion down to the micron. You can read more about it here.
There is zero plastic used in their packaging! This is such a big thing for me. As someone who does a lot of shopping online, especially lately, I am always looking for companies who don’t use plastic as much as possible and it is so refreshing to find a company who goes full out.
Also, they have the ReGirlfriend recycling program where you can send your old items in for a store credit and they recycle the items into new Girlfriend Collective items. How cool is that!
Above all, this information is proudly on their website and along with additional resources. The Girlfriend Collective website is actually a great way to educate yourself on what steps a company can actually do to reduce their global footprint.
Inclusivity
Nothing turns me off more from a company than a lack of size options and visible diversity. Sizes at Girlfriend Collective range from XXS-6X with options for Short, Regular, and Long length in their pant styles. They also provide fit details to help you determine your best fit, offer a try at home program for some items, and if you’re still unsure you can email them to talk with a specialist.
And it’s not just sizing they diversify, their models too! All sizes, races, ages, and walks of life can be seen featured on their website and in their advertising.
For reference: I am wearing size medium in everything
*Lilac color is limited edition, but the style is the same
Black High Rise Pocket Bike Shorts
*Pink color is limited edition, but the style is the same
Black Compressive High Rise Legging
*regular length, I am 5’1” & would order the shorter length
About The Pieces
Okay, so a company can be great but if their product doesn’t perform there’s no point. I am happy to say each piece is great quality and made to last!
When I got my first pair of leggings 4 years ago, Girlfriend Collective hadn’t even launched yet and all you had to do was pay for shipping. I thought sustainable leggings for practically free? Surely a scam, but I was too intrigued to resist! Instead, they arrived and I fell in love and the rest is history! Those leggings still look like new and I love seeing how the company has grown!
Leggings: Compressive, smoothing, high-waisted, holds you in without feeling squished and fully squat proof. I could not imagine a more perfect legging. These will forever be my go-to!
Bras: So comfortable! I feel like I am not even wearing anything, which is my favorite way to feel! They are a thick material and there is no padding. I feel supported without feeling confined. With so many styles to choose from, there’s something for every shape and level of exercise.
Shorts: The Gazelle shorts are my favorite! They have attached briefs underneath but could easily be cut out if you didn’t like that. I personally like the option. So comfy and perfect for exercise, running errands or around the house. The Trail shorts feature a longer compressive short underneath. Also super comfy and similar to the Gazelle with a slightly different look. The Bike shorts are perfect for actual biking or if you’re like me, taking the dog for a walk or hanging out in the garden and around the house. They all have pockets, which is a necessity, and I could not be happier!
